It has been a while, too long in fact, since I have made a post here! My apologies for that but I am here now! I hope all y'all had a great holiday season and are well and enjoying that coffee! ;-)

We are releasing the next single from our upcoming Bottom Of The Deck CD which will be released later this year. The new release is entitled Born To Love You and is an upbeat, toe-tapping tune, good for dancing to or just listening to. It was written for my special One and I flat-out can't wait for all y'all to hear it! I hope that every one of you has a special One to share it with as well!

Tribe Members will have early access to the release at Tribe Member pricing and we hope everyone else will purchase their copy on the release date! Keep a lookout for additional information!

On another note, the Koozies that all y'all asked us for are available here on the website and supplies are limited so order yours ASAP!

Also, we are still looking for our fans to subscribe to our YouTube channel so we can get that easy-to-find-us custom URL and to take our 1 min survey to help guide us in the direction all y'all want/need.

That's it for now so until next time remember to listen to some good tunes (including Wilson County), dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you meet!

In fact, we might just keep releasing singles until all 10 are out there and THEN release them as an album. That way you're not waiting so long for more Wilson County music that we know you love! What do you think?

So, what song is next? Should I just arbitrarily decide? Should I give you a list and let you pick based on the song title alone? Should I throw the song titles in a hat a draw one? Should I ask my wife or a friend? How about "eeny meeny miney moe."? It could be Born To Love You or So Tight or Lovin' Me To The Bone. At least I have narrowed it down to three. I know, and I am really sorry that it didn't happen. The truth of the matter is that there are still a couple of songs that we aren't happy with. If we are expecting/wanting y'all to lay your money down for the CD, then it is on us to make sure that all tracks are as good as we can possibly make them and that is exactly what we are doing! So, no promises about when we will release it other than to say soon. I will tell you to be on the lookout for another track from the album. Well, we had plans to release our second album Bottom of the Deck in March and... well... you know what they say about best-laid plans. Obviously, it did not happen. Just because we love all y'all, we thought we would explain why. After all, we know you are anxiously awaiting the release of the album/CD so you can get your very own copy! Right? Well, here's what happened.

After mixing one of the songs on the album, Thought I Could Fly Without You, we just weren't pleased with the final product at all. After visiting with Art, our sound engineer, we decided to go back into the studio to re-record some instrument tracks with changes that will improve the feel of the song and re-record some vocal tracks to improve the quality of our performance. We do have our standards ya know! It was good as is, but not good enough for you, our fans, so we are in the process of doing it over.

We extend our apologies for the delay but not for our drive for excellence and hope you will bear with us. The album will be out later this month... at least that's our best-laid plan at this point. ;-)

Bill
Wilson Countytag:wilson-county.com,2005:Post/56507262019-02-19T17:23:30-06:002022-05-08T06:47:09-05:00Why Do We Like Sad Songs?

Wilson County has written its fair share of sad songs like Been Away Way Too Long, another single from our upcoming album Bottom Of The Deck. Sadness is an emotion we usually try to avoid so why would anyone listen to sad songs? I would assume that sad songs make you sad, and everyone would rather be happy than sad so it makes no sense that anyone would want to listen. Right?

Well, believe it or not, there are actually scientific reasons why we like to listen to sad songs! Now I'm not going to go all "scientific" on you here or try to tell you that we consciously based our sad songs in science, but as it turns out, the scientific reasons are things all of us are already somewhat familiar with but probably haven't given much thought.

Sad music can cause intense emotions, yet the type of sadness invoked by sad music also seems pleasing in its own way. Crazy huh? "Why," you ask? Well, a very long time ago this fairly well-known guy named Aristotle famously suggested the idea of catharsis: that by overwhelming us with an undesirable emotion (sad songs) somehow purges us of it.

The emotional impact of music does not come from imparting particular emotions, but rather from being emotionally engaging in general. Sometimes sad songs do make you feel bad if they revive memories of your own tragic times, but more often they engage your interest because they describe or convey important events in the lives of others. The pleasure of engagement with intense negative emotions can be explained like this. The emotional engagement that the sad song provides usually comes without personal threat.

We like songs that combine original music (that's us), appropriate lyrics (again, that's Wilson County), and superb performances (definitely Jeff on Been Away Way Too Long ) to evoke intense emotions. What matters is that the song has an emotional impact on the listeners. People are happy to like sad songs.

In light of this enlightening information, I am sure you will find Been Away Way Too Long engaging and as a result, it will have a significant emotional impact. Be looking for the release on February 26th!

Until next time friends, listen to some good tunes (preferably Wilson County), dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you encounter!

We are excited and hope you are as well!

The how/why I wrote Bottom Of The Deck is kind of interesting and amusing. Being here in Texas, I have picked up on many of our Texas sayings. In fact, you have probably seen many of them on our FB page. I have a good friend in Florida (originally from Staten Island, NY just like me) who I converse with from time to time on the phone. During our conversations, I would use some of these colloquialisms and she would invariably laugh and ask what the heck I just said. This happened enough times that I thought these sayings might be enjoyed by you as well... hence the FB posts. After putting up those posts I got to thinking that it would be fun to incorporate a bunch of these colloquialisms in a song and Bottom Of The Deck is the result.

If you enjoy the song half as much as I enjoyed writing it, then I will consider it a success! One thing you will have to agree with me on is that the song is certainly not "as common as cornbread!"

Until next time, listen to some good tunes (preferably Wilson County), dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you encounter!

Are you, or someone in your family planning one? Or a friend? Have you ever been to a wedding? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you know one of the more touching moments is the father daughter dance. I know... I have had three such moments in my life with each of my daughters. The most recent was this past January when my "baby" got married to a great guy who happens to play bass for Wilson County... Brady.

In planning the wedding, Blair (my daughter) and I wanted a waltz for the Father-Daughter dance and she asked Jeff (Wilson County band member and my #1 son-in-law) to find an appropriate one for us. Jeff agreed and began the search. After 6 weeks or so Jeff came to a realization. Guess how many non-romantically inclined waltzes there are, other than I Loved Her First by Heartland? NONE! Or at least none that Jeff could find. So he went to plan B which, as everyone agrees, turned out light-years better than plan A. He told Blair that he had some ideas for a song, a waltz, and would it be ok with her if he wrote the song for the Father-Daughter dance. Blair said yes and the result was Daddy Daughter Dance. Jeff got a friend to make a recording of him singing solo and playing solo guitar for the wedding. It was beautiful and there was hardly a dry eye in the house, including mine!

Wilson County has recorded Daddy Daughter Dance adding drums, fiddle, dobro, Bill's guitar and harmonies but making no changes to the song itself. None were needed... Jeff has written an AWESOME song in Daddy Daughter Dance. Well... OK... Jeff made one little change in the lyrics... I am Papa to my girls and at one point in the song the lyric was "...Papa loves you..." and he changed it to "...Daddy loves you..." since most folks use daddy. ;-)

We are excited beyond words to share this song with you and it will be the first new material Wilson County has released since September, 2016! Daddy Daughter Dance will officially be released on December 3rd! It is a track from our upcoming new album, Bottom of the Deck, which will be released in February, 2019.

At 22, he shifted his focus from rock to classical guitar and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in classical guitar performance from the University of South Carolina and the University of Texas at Austin.
Ron is a very well known and accomplished fiddle player who has played with pretty much anybody who is anybody in Nashville, and beyond. He has played with Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., John Prine, Steven Stills, Roy Orbison, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, Mary Ann Price, and Rusty Weir, to name just a few. So, to say the least, we are very honored to have hosted Ron in our Studio 2.0 to record several songs with us.

When Ron plays his fiddle it is almost a magical experience for the listener! His playing is always poignant, providing a rich and powerful undercurrent for the song. This is certainly true on Daddy Daughter Dance, which will be released later this month and is a track from our upcoming album Bottom of the Deck, to be released early 2019. More about the song and album later. Be sure to stay tuned!

Until next time friend, listen to some good tunes, dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you encounter!

Bill
Wilson Countytag:wilson-county.com,2005:Post/54830512018-10-23T17:50:00-05:002021-12-27T06:14:17-06:00It's Election Time
It's that time y'all...time to go vote. That being the case I think back to a song I wrote for our first album entitled We The People. I wrote the song at a time when I found myself completely disgusted with how politicians in Washington (Republicans and Democrats alike) worked, or perhaps I should say didn't work! I found myself so tired of them playing their political games at our expense that I wrote the song. I feel the same way today, perhaps even more so. Mind you, I do not care about Republicans or Democrats but about the long term well being of our country, meaning ALL the people of which it is comprised.

I hope you find the song meaningful and enjoy it! After listening to it, if you would like a copy of it I will be glad to personally send you one. Just give me your email address and I'll take care of it right away!

Until the next time, remember to listen to some good tunes, dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you encounter!

Howdy!

Bill Salt, Wilson County band member here. As the title of this post implies, I have been just a little nervous about this whole blog thing. This is not only Wilson County's first blog post ever, it's also mine. I have known for quite a while now that having a blog to share with y'all is really important but my lack of experience in writing blog posts, or even reading them, gave me pause. As I continued to think about the whole thing I realized something very encouraging...This blog is just a conversation with friends, so what's to be nervous about? After all, I write songs for you to listen to; I write all the Wilson County Facebook Page posts, comments and replies; I maintain our website; so what"s the big deal about writing a blog? And all of us, Jeff, Bruce, Brady, and myself do consider y'all friends. It is my hope (a really big one) that all y'all will post comments and share your thoughts here so it truly is a conversation among friends! I am not sure how often I will post to this blog... I have no schedule in mind. I will certainly engage with you on your posts to this blog, but will only post something here when I feel compelled to share something with you

So, until next time, listen to some good tunes (Wilson County tunes preferable), dance a step or two, SMILE, and be kind to everyone you encounter!
