From the recordings C.R. 434 and Texas Highway Song
There are probably very few of us who haven't experienced a breakup at some point in our lives and perhaps gone off the deep end just a little. This song, being semi-autobiographical, is about such an instance. Most anyone who lives in Texas knows where Acuña is and its reputation. Many Texas boys have found comfort and pleasure there. Perhaps some of y'all have experienced "these wild Acuña nights" in your own "Acuña."
Lyrics
This big Texas highway keeps rollin’ along,
Got my old Chevy pickup and an old country song,
I’m leavin’ the one I love far behind,
Not knowin’ what I’m lookin’ for or knowin’ what I’ll find.
I told her I loved her, Lord knows it’s true,
But my my eyes were unfaithful and I left her so blue,
As the sun’s sinkin’ down I say my goodbyes,
And the highway is all I’ll call home,
It’s just my way to wander and roam,
I could’ve had something better to fill my days and my nights,
But all I’ve got now are mem’ries and a busted head light.
Headin’ south towards Del Rio ‘neath that starry Texas sky,
Jim Beam’s ridin’ shotgun but the bottles half dry,
Well just about daybreak my destination’s up ahead,
I may still be breathin’ but I’m feelin’ half dead.
And the highway is all I’ll call home,
It’s just my way to wander and roam,
I could’ve had something better to fill my days and my nights,
But all I’ve got now are mem’ries and a busted head light.
Takin’ shots of tequila off a girl I just met,
Gettin’ tattooed, getting’ hammered in that Acunã sunset,
Later on at the Corona Club I’m tippin’ back a few,
With a blonde and a redhead, Lord what should I do?
And the highway no more shall I roam,
Here’s where I’ll stay, looks like my heart found its home,
Got no use for a heartache, got no tears in sight, G
Cause I’m down here makin’ mem’ries in these wild Acunã nights.
